Mission: Tell the infrastructure story
(The Continuum)

Mission Description:

Platform/foundation to tell stories, connect & promote infrastructure.

Experiment:

Web-based interactive landing hub that shows the sector opportunities through storytelling. Links other work/agencies/stories into one place. Interactive for all users, school, career changes etc.

Next Steps:

  • Interactive platform being developed.

  • Facebook page developed. ✔

  • Build & share with users.

  • Feedback adapt & learn, based on content interaction.

  • First goal - 1000 likes.

Mission: Value based clarity leadership and collab from the start

Mission Description:

Based on clearly defined community based values and needs, "fit for purpose" infrastructure projects are delivered through leadership from both community and council or central govt. Protecting infrastructure by community input and values.

Experiment:

Community leadership to get a change in management that provides protection to a local piece of important infrastructure.

Next Steps:

  • Get local ideas with community contact on course of action to protect the bridge. ✔

  • Try and get a plan for proposal for protection of bridge.

  • Proposal to local government.

Mission: Learning, sharing & engaging

Mission Description:

By 2030 create a platform of trusted information, safe from commercial sensitivities, accessible by all, with which operators want to consult & contribute

Experiment:

Without prejudice learning opportunities… following an event, an opportunity for businesses to learn from each other by sharing information, in a way that doesn't prejudice liability or investigations

Next Steps:

  • Procure and collect supporting Case Studies. ✔

  • Connect with Legal to understand implications of sharing potentially commercially sensitive information. ✔

  • This project is a slow burn and will continue to be developed over time.

Mission: Improving productivity through technology

Mission Description:

Experiment:

Piloting an exo-skeleton for maintenance contracts.

Mission: Future Oriented Project Delivery

Mission Description:

Why: value is an often used word with lots of different meanings and has to be explained.

The “Future” on the other side includes, people, nature, animals, environment, next generations, culture, etc.

What does success look like:

End-user, clients and the contracting community work together to deliver projects which go beyond Quality, Time and Cost and consider the Future in all their decisions and activities.

Experiment:

Involve end-users, clients and contractors representing the Queenstown District Council to test their willingness to engage in a process of defining a set of criteria, which will represent the Future in the decision making for todays projects.

Next steps:

  • Identify other projects who are doing similar initiatives to identify lessons learnt. ✔

  • Complete engagement including site visits with them.

  • Develop collateral (content) to share
    Identify Contractors and Councils to work with

  • Deliver a Wananga

  • Share learnings with wider community

Mission: Help shift the procurement model

Mission Description:

By 2026 we will have a procurement model that considers the value of broader social outcomes which require accountability, recognises values to communities, requires all participants to be proactive, consders benefits such as wellbeing, education, workforce development, sustainable employment, right sized for the application.

Experiment:

Lower lowest price conforming tenders. Why? Reduce 'busy' work that's not eventuated: Shift focus (if appropriate) to add/broader outcomes. Improve wellbeing for bid teams.

Next Steps:

  • Draw up PID for 3/4 projects.

  • Confirm data points and LPC landscape, sector insights.

  • Meet ACC to understand accidents. Refining process and systems. ✔

Mission: Pilot app to help small business fulfil compliance requirements (Infrastructure Comply)

Mission Description:

User friendly, low cost, ‘Thriving Infrastructure’ app with pre—built forms complying with legislation and acts 

Experiment:

Infrastructure comply app

Next Steps:

  • Set up businesses with the app to trial it. ✔

  • Support businesses with the means to modify it and adapt to their organisation. ✔

  • Collect feedback and make changes based on feedback. ✔

  • Iterate, adapt and learn.

Mission: Thriving and stable workforce

Mission Description:

By 2028 half the infrastructure workforce gap - bring them in, keep them in.

Experiment:

Develop industry agreement to have 5-10% of workforce in formal training agreements 

Next Steps:

  • Build out our plan ✔

  • Describe the outcomes we’re trying to achieve. ✔

  • Ask the market what they are doing & test.

  • Define how we will see success.

  • Ask the market how they would respond & refine based on feedback.

  • Publish as potential procurement rules for Local Government.

Mission: A future we are committing to today.

Mission Description:

A wholistic approach to NZ infrastructure.

Experiment:

Defining what’s in and what’s out, define a net positive vision for infrastructure.

  • Define a hypothesis for research. ✔

  • Shape some of our assumptions. ✔

  • Circulate actions and notes.

  • Agree on research questions; assumptions & hypothesis; scope of research Aotearoa/global.
